Chase Community Solar is a consortium member of the Zero Carbon Rugeley (ZCR) project. ZCR is an Engie-led initiative involving 11 partners and funded by a grant from Innovate UK. The project is investigating innovative designs and solutions to create a smart, local energy system for Rugeley town. The diverse range of project partners are utilising the latest in renewable energy technologies and smart control systems to create a scalable energy solution that can be replicated in other areas. The project findings will help aid the UK’s transition to a zero-carbon future.

ZCR aims to deliver clean, affordable energy to residents, and the Rugeley community is central to the design. Project partners are working closely with residents, businesses and commuters to design tailored solutions via innovative community engagement methodologies. The result will be a bespoke smart, local energy system. The concept aims to demonstrate reduction of carbon emissions and energy costs whilst simultaneously boosting local economic regeneration and social integration.

As a project partner, CCS is well placed to support the User-Centric Design, having well-established links in the community, and currently delivering clean energy as a Community Energy Group via solar arrays on council bungalow properties. The Society is working closely with the community and consortium to help ensure inclusivity, and is providing insight into how Community Energy Groups have a significant part to play on the route to a zero-carbon future.
